Glorious Sleep
Do You feel as if you are living your best life? Is the second half everything you had hoped for and envisioned?

It wasn't for me at first. One of the reasons is that my sleep was terrible.
I never really appreciated sleep or the fact that it is a daily function until I couldn’t sleep.   Of course now that I am on the other side of that issue I know it was related to severe hormonal imbalance.  Every DR I went to said “I was fine”. Clearly I was not.

At that time in my life I slept from about 9:30 to 2:30. Like clockwork. I was exhausted, grumpy, depressed, in pain all the time, and gaining weight. A friend actually introduced me to a product that completely changed my life. It was an essential oil. I had never heard of them and was very skeptical but it worked. Literally overnight I was sleeping like a baby and within 3 days a changed woman. It changed everything for me. It’s kind of crazy but that is what got my attention to a more natural way of living, so I am very grateful.

Here is what I have learned about the importance of sleep.

Our bodies are designed to live our best life with adequate sleep. And let’s be real for a second, we want a great life right? I mean we have worked our behinds off to get to this phase of life they call empty nesting and we are supposed to be rockin it and living happily!

  Somewhere along the way of life’s changes  we have rewritten the rules as technology has progressed. However, the design of our body has not changed, and it never will. We must submit to the intelligent design of the body. Our bodies were created and programmed from day one to be in sync with natural light and dark cycle.

Remember, there was no electricity or Wi-Fi in the past. People went to sleep when the sun went down and awoke when the sun came up.  Did you know that going to bed early can help weight loss?  Now I have your attention. Wonderful things happen if you go to sleep early like between 9:00-10:00 pm.

This gives your body time to do what it was designed to do when resting….heal.

There is actually a study done by The National Institute of health that concluded that 6 hours of prolactin (a pituitary hormone) production in the dark is the minimum needed to maintain immune function like T-cell and beneficial killer-cell production. Wow ,that sounds super important right!?  I want more killer cells in me, how about you?

Here is the catch though, it takes at least three and a half hours of natural melatonin secretion before any prolactin is ever seen.  Now you understand why I said you must submit to the intelligent design of the body. 
So, you have to go to bed 2-3 hours before midnight or there will not be enough time for this natural hormonal action to happen. If you sleep enough each night you will lose weight as a result of your cortisol going down. Pretty cool huh?

There are  a few more things you should do to assure great sleep like, proper nutrition and moderate exercise. Oh one more thing,  you must sleep in complete darkness! This keeps cortisol low. High cortisol is a killer to immune system, energy level, focus, weight. When cortisol levels stay ramped up you then go to  all out adrenal fatigue.
When you sleep great you wake up feeling happy, energized and alive. Isn't that the goal so we can live a fulfilling abundant life?
